The new Wagon 3 was out today with Tower 3-2 and Engine 3-5. The wagon used supply line to hook up the hydrants, the pumping engine, and the tower ladder which it would probably supply at a fire scene. The tests took place along Route 50 and traffic control alternated the flow of traffic through the area until the testing was done around five this evening. Battalion 3-2 oversaw the operation.
Brick Borough Honors the Lives of the Heroes Lost 9/11/16
Today Brick Borough remembers those lost on that day, 15 years ago... Units from Brick Borough Fire Department, Brick Borough Police Department, BrickLife EMS, and St. Sprenklesburg Fire Department, and civilians from across the city gathered at Station 1 to honor those brave souls lost. There was a collective moment of silence at 8:46, when the first plane hit. Then, a bugle player played Taps as the crowd remained silent. All people in attendance faced the 9/11 Memorial Monument, which had been decorated with flowers. The department's two Seagraves, Engine 3-4 and Tower 3-2, were parked behind the monument to represent the units of the FDNY. The Stars and Stripes hung off of the bucket of Tower 3-1 which was positioned over the monument. Many a tear were shed at the service, from both first responders and civilians alike. The service began at 8:30 and ended at 10:00.
Brick Borough Honors Lewes, DE Fallen Firefighter 7/14/16
It is with a heavy heart to learn of a tragic loss of a brave soul in the firefighting community. On Monday, June 11, 2016, Lewes, Delaware firefighter Tim McClanahan was killed when he fell from a helicopter during a training exercise with DART (Delaware Aviation Rescue Team). During a trip there yesterday, my family and I were stunned to see firetrucks and police cars on nearly every overpass and at almost every intersection, and people lining the roads. It was a very chilling sight to see all of those things, but it just showed how big a part of the whole community, and even state, a man can be. He was a great person and he served the community well for years. He will be dearly missed by all, and not just in Delaware, but everywhere in this great nation. In Brick Borough today, we assembled every fire truck and firefighter in the area to honor and recognize this great man and all of his deeds. At every intersection, there are different departments and stations. Ladder trucks proudly raise the American colors as the casket travels beneath them. The column of fire trucks is lead by old Engine 3, with the casket on board, and followed by a dozen other true from station 1. The event closed off all area roads until 2:00 PM, and all crews returned to their respective quarters by 3:00. Tim, you will be dearly missed, and never forgotten.
Engine 3-4 Placed In-Service 6/10/16
On June 10, a beautiful Friday afternoon, crew members from Station 2 gathered to welcome the newest unit into the fleet. Engine 3-4 was going to be placed into service. The ceremony began with Battalion Chief 3-2 saying a few words about the department and how the truck would serve them. Then, the family members of the crew and the firefighters gathered around the new truck which was parked out front of Station 2 (Main Street was closed for a short time due to the event). The crew did the honorary scrubbing of the front bumper with a bucket, brush, and washing broom. Then, the crew, their families, and Battalion Chief 3-2 helped push the truck into its new home: the single bay of Station 2. Then, the all gathered in front of the truck for a group photo, and then just a photo of the two firefighter crew. Then, to celebrate, they all had a picnic in the park nearby to celebrate the occasion. Brick Borough Engine 3-4 will serve the department for many years to come. Main Street reopened at around 3:00 PM.
