Bid for New Truck 1 Awarded! 11/18/18
The apparatus committee just awarded a bid to E-One for a new Truck Company 1. The unit will be an E-One Metro 100 ladder truck with a 110' rear-mounted ladder. Truck 1 will be mounted on a 2019 E-One Cyclone II chassis. Similarly to the current aerial, this truck will feature no pump or water tank, but it will have a 10k.W. generator. This is a departure from the tower ladder type of unit that the Borough has been using for many, many years. However, the department is satisfied with the performance of many of the area's standard aerial ladder trucks, such as St. Sprenklesburg Quint 17 and Studington Truck 9. Another driving feature in the purchase of this unit is the shorter wheelbase of the single-axle that the Metro 100 has, while still delivering ample compartment space and a large aerial device. In the narrower side streets and alleys of the city that the current Truck 1 has difficulty navigating, this unit will excel. The new Truck 1 will feature a pre-piped waterway so it can continue to function as a major water-moving piece on the fireground. Production will begin very shortly. Truck 1 is expected to be delivered before the spring. This unit will very closely mirror Woonsocket, RI Ladder 1, which was followed closely during the spec'ing process.

Extra Staffing For Devil's Night 10/30/18
On October 30, we are preparing for “Devil’s Night.” If you have not heard of it before, “Devil’s Night” occurs between 7:00 PM on October 30 and 5:00 AM on October 31. During this time, we see record-high call volume in the city as delinquents and criminals take to the streets. Due to this occasion, we will be staffing Attacks 1 and 2 with 2 members each. Typically the Attack units are cross-staffed by Engine Company crews, but tonight we cannot leave any unit understaffed. All Chief officials are also in and are prepared to answer any calls thrown their way. Additional police presence will be out in the city tonight to deter any crime. Please use your heads folks and stay out of trouble. If you see anything suspicious, call 911 immediately.

New Engines Specs Announced! 9/23/18
After weeks of visiting nearby departments and seeing what Pierce has to offer in different forms, the apparatus committee drew up a list of specifications for the new Engine Companies 2 and 7. Both units will have Pierce Enforcer chassis, seating for 6 (3 SCBA-equipped seats) in the cab, barrier-style doors, and a 10" raised roof. Both engines will have a Hale QTWO two-staged 1500 gpm pump and a CAFS system with Autofill capabilities. The engines will also have 500 gallon water tanks and 25 gallons of foam. Both engines will also be SWB-style engines. SWB means short wheelbase, which basically means they're short. Their bodies will not be very long, but they will hold a lot of equipment. The only difference between Engines 2 and 7 will be in the length of their bodies. Engine 7 has a longer bay length in its station due to when it was constructed as opposed to Engine 2, so it will be two feet longer. Otherwise, these two will be pretty much identical. They will both be equipped with battery-operated Genesis rescue tools and they will carry over 1000' of 5" supply line and over 500' of miscellaneous attack line. More will be posted when the specifications are finalized and the blueprints are drawn up.
Bid Awarded for New Engines 2 and 7! 9/3/18
Even on this beautiful Labor Day holiday, our fire officials were hard at work. We are going to be replacing two of our front-line engines. Engine 2 is a 1988 unit, making it 30 years old. Engine 7 is a 1985 unit, making it 33 years old. Having units this old on the streets is potentially dangerous, given their age and the wear and tear 30+ years of service has had on them. Therefore, the apparatus committee has awarded the bid for two new engines to Pierce Manufacturing. Pierce has already showed its worth in the area, delivering new apparatus to West Brick Borough, Gettysbrick, and others. The next step is to spec out each feature on the engines that will help them serve the community. This process will take several weeks to finalize. After this, there will be a process of time before production where everything will be finalized and put together. Then, production is expected to start between November and January. The finish apparatus are expected to be delivered to Glick Fire Equipment in Bird-in-Hand, PA for equipment mounting and final decals and touch-ups by February or March. The finished products are expected on the street by April. We look forward to this process very much, and we will keep putting out updates as time progresses.
